So what's the fuss about. Windows 10 installed earlier today and, that's it...

I can still do everything I need to with the minimum of effort. I still have my taskbar toolbar 'Programs', so I don't need that ugly start menu. Everything seems easy to find and nothing's broken.

The only thing I need to fix is the fugly look but, isn't that what we skinners do best

(WB10 - where are you?)

Creative Labs SB X-Fi wasn't working. Had to install the latest driver with two reboots to get sound back. But running all OK so far, otherwise.

GeForce Experience and the GeForce GPU drivers were a mess, though. Downloaded the latest Win10 versions of each and installed. Will fire up some games soon.

More often than not you will find NVidia drivers to be the number one thing to EXCLUDE from Windows Update.

Microsoft royally screws them in 10.

If you google issues re NVidia and 10 ...you'll find oodles....

Moreso why I dislike Win10. I like to be in control of my updates. But, after today, I've apparently thrown caution into the wind. It's all Win10 from here.

Having played with W10 for a while as an upgrade, a nice new 500Gb SSD arrived yesterday, so, it was time for a clean install.

I created a USB boot media. Booted from that and installed windows to the new drive. All well and good. Except I needed to change the boot sequence once that was complete so install booted from the new drive.

Had the old drive connected still so Windows would activate ok. All done ok.

All done, fresh, clean install of windows. Of course now, as the old drive was still connected, W10 offered me a choice of which drive to boot from.

Disconnected the old drive and... it wouldn't boot. So I put the USB back in, booted from that. Thankfully there's an option to fix boot issues (I bet they knew what would happen) and that fixed it.

So there we have it. I have a clean install of W10 on my new drive and everything is super speedy

It didn't take me long to find the start menu either. That's in C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs - I usually add the 'Programs' folder as a taskbar toolbar so I have that nice fly-out menu, missing since XP's demise.

I was game, but when I tried to open start menu folder it denied me access. O yeah I'm the only one using my computer no administrator. I would assume do away with that anyways. It might be because I already have a start menu I don't know.
